My Artistic Journey

My search for an old school sound…
My Artistic Journey

Italian soprano Lucia Tumminelli was born in Como, where she began her musical education as a pianist at the Conservatorio G. Verdi before discovering her passion for opera and dedicating herself to vocal studies. She continued her training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and at the Universität der Künste Berlin, graduating in 2023.

At the heart of Lucia’s artistic identity lies a deep connection to the old school singing tradition: a search for a clear sound, expressive freedom and emotional truth through the development of three voice registers.

Her artistic development has been shaped by important experiences across Europe. From 2023 to 2025, she was a member of the International Opera Studio of the Staatsoper Stuttgart, where she appeared in productions ranging from Mozart and Britten to Wagner and contemporary repertoire. During this period, she also performed at major venues including the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Kölner Philharmonie.

In April 2025, Lucia made her debut at the Opéra national de Paris (Bastille) as Suor Dolcina in Puccini’s Il trittico, in a new production by Christoph Loy conducted by Carlo Rizzi. In November 2025, she made her highly anticipated role debut as Mimì in La Bohème at the Landestheater Coburg, a milestone that marked an important step in her artistic journey. In 2026, she makes both her role and house debut as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt.

Lucia’s talent has been recognized at numerous international competitions. In 2025, she was awarded the Fourth Prize, the Prize for Best Italian Singer, the Engagement Award, and the Beckwith Foundation Prize at the Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino (CLIP). She was also a finalist at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, and received Second Prize at the Giuditta Pasta Competition. In addition, she was selected for the Internationale Meistersinger Akademie in Neumarkt and the Académie of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.

Her repertoire currently includes roles such as Mimì (La Bohème), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Micaëla (Carmen), Anna(le Villi), Tatyana(Eugene Onegin), Helena (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Wellgunde(Das Rheingold), Karolka (Jenůfa), Cupid (Orphée aux enfers), Giannetta (L’elisir d’amore), and the First Lady (Die Zauberflöte). She also sung the soprano soloist in Rossini’s Stabat Mater.

As her career continues to develop, Lucia remains committed to cultivating a repertoire that reflects her artistic vision: one rooted in the expressive richness of the Italian lyric tradition, where vocal line, poetry, and dramatic truth become inseparable. Lucia is extremely thankful to her voice teachers Antoni Staniec and James Smidt(Haus of Shmizzay) for their constant help and support.

Apart from singing Lucia is an eager reader who always travels with at least ten books. She loves yoga and adventurous trekking in the high mountains. She speaks four languages fluently (Italian, English, German, and Spanish) and her hidden talent is mirror speaking.
